One of the biggest criticisms from opponents of MTV's docu-series '16 and Pregnant,' which follows high school-age girls as they prepare to become mothers, is that it glamorizes teen pregnancy. But according to a new theory from the Christian Science Monitor, the show is actually doing the exact opposite.A new report from the National Campaign notes that although teens view parental influence as the number one factor in preventing teen pregnancy, an astonishing 82 percent say '16 and Pregnant' "helps them better understand the challenges of teen pregnancy and parenthood -- and why they should avoid it."
"Entertainment media is one of the nation's favorite punching bags, but we have to acknowledge that when we're talking about teen pregnancies media can be and often is a force for good," said Bill Albert, a spokesman for the National Campaign.
