The rumors are true: Snoop Dogg is collaborating with Charlie Sheen on a track for Sheen’s My Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour, Billboard confirms today, after Sheen tweeted the picture above on Friday.
The third man in the picture, if you’re not already familiar with him, is Rob Patterson, an LA-based working guitarist who got his start as a core member of Ozzfest regulars Otep. Patterson joined Filter last year, and is currently the Torpedo of Truth tour’s music director and thus, as he put it on twitter, Sheen’s counterpart in “the most epic rock band you will ever see, hear taste and smell.” Patterson is also engaged to Carmen Electra.
But back to Snoop here: has there ever been a rapper with less in the way of collaboration standards? This Charlie Sheen venture may eclipse even Brooke Hogan’s “About Us,” which crowned Paul Wall as reigning champion in this category.
Paul Wall smirks about life’s irony…or about all the zeroes on the check.
Snoop got his start as a featured performer on Dr. Dre’s classic The Chronic, so maybe he has a fondness for that form. Or maybe it’s another facet of his savvy cross-marketing, like appearing on Martha Stewart (twice!). And he emerges intact from even his most unlikely collaborations, whether singing with Willie Nelson or rapping with Big Time Rush (not to mention his bars on Katy Perry’s monster hit “California Gurls”). But is a Charlie Sheen collabo a bridge too far? Kim Kardashian managed to make a The-Dream production sound mediocre, so anything’s possible.
More frighteningly, what if the song is great? Sheen’s misanthropic and everyone-phobic rants are noxious, but they do have a rhythm that could be exploited. We could be headed for a slew of Sheen collaborations. Yikes!
