?Portlandia,? ?Game of Thrones? Among Peabody Award Winners

 

Showtime’s “Homeland,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and IFC’s “Portlandia” are among the thirty-eight�recipients of this year’s George Foster Peabody Awards, announced today by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The 71st Annual Peabody Award winners represent “the best examples of electronic media for the year 2011,” as selected by a 16-member board that includes TV critics, academics, culture experts and prominent figures in the industry. Among the work recognized by the Peabody Board are news reports and documentaries, as well as scripted and unscripted programming produced for radio, television, and the Web.

Joining the aforementioned entertainment winners are HBO’s “Treme“; the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation” the classic game show “
